Guys, starting got more and more sluggish over last two weeks. Thought it might be weak battery, colder temps causing more drag, maybe main starting circuit wire connection corrosion, etc. Fixed all that and no improved starting power, then noticed smoke coming out the hole in the starter body where the copper strap goes in, and you could see significant arcing and sparking during cranking. I have a picture but can't figure out how to post it yet. Anyways, I don't think you should even be able to see down into the starter there, so may have burned up the dust seal etc.
Anybody care to suggest test steps to validate pulling the starter for a rebuild job?
Or any other thoughts?
Thanks,
Brent

Smoke from a starter means it is likely toast.

Brent- phone Lavoy and get a new starter shipped to you.

Smoke coming from inside the starter pretty much validates pulling it for rebuild or exchange, no further testing would be required if I see that on one of mine.

Yep, A New starter and this baby starts faster than ANY vehicle I have ever owned! ANY vehicle.
Also cleaned all the wire contacts and terminals, as good ground is critical.
Thanks!
