Here is a link to the page in the parts catalog. https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/sid ... pgId/27975 The cam must be rusted in keep working and tapping it. Only remove the quill if you think there is a problem in the differential. You can use the green arrows at the top of the page to scroll pages or you can clink on the green "420 and 430 Tractors - PC505 - 0 Non Sectionalized Catalog" to get to the index. This catalog includes the 420 and 430 wheel tractors so be sure you look for pages referencing "C" or crawler.

Re: 420 left steering sticks
There is nothing that holds the cam in. Have you removed the throwout bearing carrier? If not, do so first.

Re: 420 left steering sticks
So how does the throw out bearing carrier come out , does the round pin opposite side of the throw out bearing carrier lock screw come off ?
Re: 420 left steering sticks
Once you have loosened the adjusting bolt, the carrier should slide off as it rotates somewhat. If not, that is the problem.

Re: 420 left steering sticks
Clean, polish, buff, sand, etc., whatever the offending piece was til it shines, apply anti-seize so does not happen again.

Re: 420 left steering sticks
If I remember correctly, there are two “studs” on the throw out bearing housing. One seemed to screw in too easily, and could cause interference with the tube; I used locktight to keep it in a good place. The other I also locktighted to allow the bearing to move on the tube freely. Good luck.

Re: 420 left steering sticks
You can't loctite the adjusting bolt, that is how you adjust the clutch.
