Hey guys, im looking at a 450b dozer to buy. Guy that owns in said it moves and turns fine but wont load on his trailer. undercarriage is fine. What could be the cause of in not wanting to load up?
Thanks in advance.

I interpret what you are saying is the bare machine, blade off the ground, will move and turn on flat ground. It could be many things, real diagnosis is required to pin point the issue. Some things are: out of adjustment or bad engine clutch, linkages for reverser out of adjustment, low pressure in the reverser, leaks in the reverser, weak clutches in the reverser, weak steering clutches, oil/grease on steering clutches (if dry clutches), leaking steering clutch seals, or hoses (wet clutches). Might be one, or more, of these or a variation of them. Others may have more thoughts.

Do you think 2k is a good price? I dont mind the work.
Re: 1972 450B
We can't see it to know anything beyond what you post, 2k may be a good deal, maybe not. Have you verified the year by the serial number?
Undercarriage is fine based on what? Looks good to you (We don't know how much undercarriage experience you have to make an eyeball judgement, not saying your judgement is wrong.) or actual measurements and comparison to specs? What type of blade; inside 6 way, outside manual, outside hydraulic? What is the condition of the blade and hydraulic system? Any attachments like a winch? Good quality parts aren't cheap. How much more are you prepared to spend on it? Will you be happy with it if you have to put another 2500 or more in it just to get it working properly, even if the tracks are good to go for a while. Just my thoughts, others may vary.

Re: 1972 450B
Im going to verify the serial number today, i have operated dozers for years but im no expert, but to me the undercarriage has normal wear. I have not measured the undercarriage.the blade is a outside hydraulic.i would be ok putting in 3k or so in it. The blade is a little sluggish to lift.

Sounds like it could work out for you. Others should be along with thoughts.
