450B Track Rubbing Dozer Boom

Post by Lunch_Peak » Wed Jun 26, 2024 9:20 pm

My 450B Dozer has the track rubbing on the left side boom of the dozer assembly. As best I can tell it is the result of the the pin and or bushing being worn out on that side where the boom meets the frame. This will be my first real project on this dozer, any suggestions or tips on how to replace this pin and bushing would be appreciated. I attached photos of the rub as well as the pin and bushing below. Thanks!

Welcome to the Boards.

It appears your dozer frame has had extra plating welded to it, which has removed some of the original clearance. You will need to tighten up the entire blade mounting system, both sides, and be sure things are centered up. When one side of the blade is open the loaded side is pushed rearward and wears "back". At the same time the opposite side is pulled forward causing wear in the opposite direction. The entire mounting frame may be loose and shifted some. Some of the bushings and pins may be available from JD. Lavoy might be able to help you with some. To truly tighten it up welding and machine work may be involved as well.

Follow up and conclusion to anyone looking to learn from this post. I pulled both pins where the dozer boom meets the frame and the culprit pin was not original and had obviously been made from mild steel instead of 4140 Chrome Moly steel. It was likely something a previous owner whipped up themselves on a shop lathe. A local shop made me two new pins from 4140 at the full 2" OD and now my dozer boom is squared up nicely and no longer rubbing. I hit that spot with a little fresh paint and she is back in business pushing stumps. I included the mild steel pin in the close up photos for your viewing pleasure.
