1949 MC in excellent condition but no blade
I purchased a 1949 MC a few months ago that never had a blade. I've purchased parts and installed to make it run like new and it does run great. It was used without a blade by a pastor to help stuck parishioners when stuck (I was told). I did find some hydraulic cylinders that mount inside the tracks and the arms and blade. I also found an MT pump. I need help with the lift cylinders because they need rebuilding before I would try to figure out how to put this all together. FYI I also own a 1951 MT which I totally rebuilt 25 years ago and use it on my farm to this day. The MC was a barn find and the undercarriage is near perfect ,except for some surface rust. I think it is worth mounting this blade on. Do you sell rebuild kits for these cylinders?
Are there any clues as to how to/not to proceed mounting a front blade?

We would need a lot more information, what blade, what cylinders, etc to formulate a good answer.

I guessed I was supplying way too little info about what I have. I will go out later and attempt to extract some casting numbers, etc. I'm happy to see that this website is very much alive.

Re: 1949 MC in excellent condition but no blade
The slave cylinders say N111Y JD and N112Y JD. The lift arms are 60" long and have a square crossbeam attached to the end of them. This appears to have features that mate with opposing ones on the blade. The blade itself is quite heavy and is 73" across by 20 " high. It looks like this is the system that mounts outside the tracks. There are two steel pipes each with hydraulic lines on each end. There are also a myriad of brackets, bolts, spacers, and arms. Does this sound familiar? While not new to old tractors, I am certainly green when it comes to JD crawlers.

Your description could fit many dozer blades. The cylinders could have been used on several. Pictures will help. You need to use a third-party hosting site to post them, like Imugr, or Postimages.

Thank you! I'll go see how to drive the image posting sites you suggest. I noticed the image posting icon barked back URL.

Hi,
We do have a photo server associated with the group.
http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/ ... =5&t=13015
The board can host images, but it is really easy for some Spam-O-Bot to take advantage of and so it was disabled. Hence the off-site storage and linkage requirement.

Hi,
Once you get signed up, you can see how I used it in this thread:

The subject there has zero to do with an MC but you can see how pics are embedded into your thread by looking at the page code in your browser.

Re: 1949 MC in excellent condition but no blade
I will try posting pics after I get privs from Lavoy. Went to Steam-Up in Brooks Oregon this weekend and found several JD crawlers there. What an awesome event for old tractor/crawler buffs! One actually had my exact blade and mounting. It was a 1051 MC. The very friendly owner told me his was a Holt made in Independence Oregon, now out of business. I got good pics of the mounting and some clues. I am still back to rebuilding my extremely-heavy-hydraulic-cylinders before attempting installation. They do mount inside the tracks and, given their heft, certainly add low level ballast.

Hi,
Wow! A crawler from 1051! That'd win the Oldest Crawler Award!
I did process a Next Door Key On The Keyboard routine when I read that.
