Discovered my 40c engine block has a crack in it. Local prices are crazy for a donor engine...and I have spent far too much $$ on this baby so far but am still addicted.
Talk me off the cliff!
I am going to look at a farmall a engine to swap into it. Will have to make an adapter plate but similar HP engine and much easier to find parts for.
How crazy am I?
I just want to push dirt.
engine swap
Re: engine swap
Not sure what you mean by easier to find parts, but there is currently nothing that is hard to find for the Deere engine, no difference there. It is a 4 cylinder engine, you will have to lengthen stuff to get it to fit. THrottle will be a pain in the butt along with cooling and other issues.
40 blocks are readily available, just replace the block.
I am also the wrong guy to ask. I would never swap under any conditions as to me it destroys originality as well as value. I also no longer have the patience to spend time trying to adapt something when the original is not at all difficult to source, and I never swap engines even for the same engine, I always rebuild the one I am working on other than like you encountered, a broken block or head, or catastrophic failure. So, really really personal choice.
