420 starter knob

Is this what it's supposed to look like (just like the choke knob)?

I'm restoring the instrument panel area.

Starter knob

That would work if the threads are the same as the shaft, but it does not look original to me. I think the shape is different, let's see what others say.
1959 JD 440ICD w/64 Power Angle Tilt Blade
1959 JD 440ICD w/63 Manual Angle Blade
1959 JD 440IC w/602 Manual Angle Blade
1959 JD 730D W SE (many options)
1950 JD M S w/M-20 Mower
1952 JD M W
1955 FORD 640 (burns the most fuel)

My father also does not think it is original, the one that was on it was more of a toadstool shape if you imagine one with a flattened top. I was going to replace it because I melted it in paint thinner and thought it was ruined, but it looks all right after drying out.

No one knows?

That is not the correct knob as far as originality. It most likely is the correct part number, it is just a change in suppliers and no attempt was made to retain the original look. I think I have or will have the correct knobs available shortly.

Thanks Lavoy, I kept the knob I have for now until I get to the bottom of it.

Do you have vintage water temp gauges? I'll e-mail you sometime if you miss this post.

The OEM gauges have gotten pricey recently, over $100. I know a guy that is making new ones, but not much cheaper. Aftermarket gaues that say Deere, but are not the correct scipt and face style are readily availalbe, and fairly reasonable. Aftermarket that is a generic gauge I normally have on hand.
