Hi,
Hmmm. Looks more like a 'needs little to be like new' to me!
Actually, it looks a lot like a JD350 I was looking at about three weeks ago. That one was advertised with a 'fresh engine', and I found that they'd ripped the engine out of a 1520 wheel tractor and had it strapped to a pallet sitting alongside the crawler!
The only real difference between that 350 and this 440 is that the 350 still had all the track pads bolted to the rails. Otherwise, I have this sense of deja-vu all over again!

I would want to be sure, visually, that this guy is selling a complete crawler. Some the parts that are not on it are getting hard to find and pricey if and when you do find them.
Even if you get a deal on it, make sure you have more than enough to at least break even if you end up hitting it in the head instead of bringing it back to life.

evening all,
nnaatz all i bought is the dozer, any "lumber" isnt included .
stan, if u are intersted in it, i can find u some extra pads for it .
jd440icd2006, most of the parts are there, it was a complete machine. the guy told me the clutch went so they pulled the motor, but never fixed it. he was gonna cut it up for scrap. could u tell me what some of those missing pricey parts are? are they unique to the diesel or will gas parts fit?

Lavoy would be best at IDing the cross over parts between the gas and the diesel.
I was thinking of things like the clutch housing, fuel tank brace, fuel tank, hydraulic pump (working), hydraulic tank, etc.
The clutch housing will cross as for as fitting but they are different. The gas one has the serial number tag on it, and diesel serial number tag is on the dash pedestal.
I would just get a parts book or someone that knows these things and make sure you know what you are getting. I have seen too many times when they call it "complete", and then you end up not finding the parts.
If you are buying it for near scrap prices and do not have far to haul, then you have no worries.
Keep us posted with the rebuild, and you can never post enough play by play pictures.

JD440ICD2006, the clutch housing is there, fuel tank bracket, tank, hyd pump, hyd tank, and the nose are missing. the hood is there, but its been run over. the guy told me up front that it was complete 3 years ago, but that some stuff is missing now. a good friend was with me when i bought it, he said he has most of the parts that i need, as he parted out 3 440s. i got it for less than scrap price, so i know i didnt get hurt.
